Varsity Head Coach
- Coach Verderber brings a wealth of
experience, both as a player and a coach, to the Walpole girls
varsity program. Joe graduated from Walpole High School in 1988
where he was a varsity starter for three years. During his high
school years he set the all time goal and assist record (162 points),
was a three year All Star, a Bay State League MVP and Senior Tri-Captain.
Joe was also the first Walpole hockey player to be selected to
play in Hockey Night in Boston. Besides being an all star in hockey,
Joe was also All Scholastic in football and hockey.
Joe went on to attend Brown University (class of 1992) where he
was a four year varsity starter. In 1991 Brown won the Ivy League
championship for NCAA Division 1 schools.
After graduation Joe began coaching in Florida, eventually coming
back to Walpole as the Walpole High School boys varsity assistant
coach for four years. He spent the next 10 years in Attleboro
as head coach where his team consistently qualified for the state
tournament. He has been the Walpole varsity girls head coach since
the 2007-2008 season.

Hockey has been a big part of Matt’s life, as he has been
skating since the age of three. Growing
up in the Attleboro area, Matt played youth hockey for the Tri-County Saints of
the Greater Boston League until age 17.
He was instrumental in starting a club hockey program at Attleboro High
school in 1996, which advanced to varsity status in 1998. Matt served as captain of the team in 1999
and 2000, coached throughout his high school career by Joe Verderber, WHS Varsity
Girls Head Coach.
Matt graduated from Quinnepiac University in 2004 and has
helmed the WHS JV girls team for the last several years.
