The
Lady Jr Rebels U12A team played the ECGH Wings U12A1 team
for the championship. They were playing in the U12 Major
Division which was the top division and we were in the
U12 Mid North Division. However, for the playoffs they
were the # 1 seed in our division and we were the # 2
seed. We beat Lexington Bedford 5-1 in the semi-final
game to advance into the finals and ECGH beat Charles
River U12 4-1 to get to the finals.
Both teams were very aggressive right out
of the shoot and we got on the board first. A nice breakout
play from behind the net to the left wing Rachael Barry
who fed Jenna up the center. Jenna carried the puck into
center ice and fed it back to a streaking Rachael who
went in for a breakaway and hit the net about half way
up on the right side. ECGH scored to tie it about half
way into the first, getting it in front with 3 girls jamming
at it. Our 2nd goal came with just under 1 minute left
in the first when Elisabeth Smith went to bank the puck
out of our zone up the right side. Mary Kate Drinkwater
won a footrace to their blue line, went in alone and put
it in the same spot as Rachael, 2-1. The second period
was scoreless and ECGH was really putting the pressure
on down our end with several more crashes to the net but
Samantha Baturin and our defense did a great job preventing
a goal. Four minutes into the 3rd period, Rachael took
a nice feed at center ice from Katelynn Arnold and put
a wrist shot into the lower corner with the defense right
on her. Finally, with just under a minute left, Jenna
fed Mary Kate at center ice and her dump in (to make a
change) found the empty net, 4-1.
The game was very exciting. The intensity
level and aggression on the fore-check and in our defensive
zone were what really stood out defensively. Our breakout
plays worked well all game and I think we won 75% of the
face-offs. Scoring was:

Jenna Donahue 2 assists, Elisabeth Smith 1 assist, Katelynn
Arnold 1 assist
